As a trauma healer, I’ve seen this over and over again:
People think they’re “doing it wrong” because they’re waiting to audibly hear God.
But connection with God isn’t one-size-fits-all.
In The Holy Bible, it says, “Be still and know that I am God.” Stillness isn’t silence. It’s a nervous system state.
And when your nervous system is regulated… your perception sharpens.
Some people:
- Receive a scripture.
- Get a song placed in their heart.
- Feel a deep embodied knowing.
- See images, memories, or flashes.
- Even smell something that anchors them in presence.
- Hear a whisper.
If your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight, you will struggle to perceive God’s voice not because He isn’t speaking but because survival mode drowns out subtlety.
You are not spiritually broken.
You may just be dysregulated.
And the shift from “I can’t hear God” to “How does God uniquely speak to me?” changes everything.
